Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of our frequently asked questions.  If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.

1.Do I have a grace period?
2.Can I let my friend drive my car?
3.Am I covered when I rent a car on vacation?

Do I have a grace period?
No ! All of the property and casualty policies that we have read state that your insurance protection STOPS on the date due of your payment. While most companies will accept a late payment, if you have an accident between the due date of your policy and the date they receive your payment, they will NOT cover that accident !!!

To be safe, always plan on getting your payment into the hands of the insurance company BEFORE the due date.

Can I let my friend drive my car?
Yes, MOST (not all) auto insurance policies allow you, the named insured,  to give permission to some else to operate your car. Be careful when doing so. First, if they wreck your car, you are responsible for all of the damage and injuries. Even if they have insurance, it does NOT cover your car only theirs! Second, you are responsible for the deductible and, if the rates go up, you get to pay for that increase.

Just to be sure, CALL our office and discuss the situation with one of our licensed insurance representative.

Am I covered when I rent a car on vacation?
Great Question! Remember that the following answers apply only to commercial rental cars and NOT to a simple borrow of a friend's car.

There are three parts to the answer:
1.) The Liability coverage that you carry follows you onto any car that you rent. This coverage is excess to the rental company's liability insurance.

2.) The Comprehensive (Fire & Theft) and Collision coverages that you carry will carry over to a car that you rent from a commercial establishment. You must have signed a contract requiring that you be responsible for damage to that car.

3.) Loss of Use and Diminished Value. Loss of Use is an attempt by the rental car companies to charge you for the amount of money that they lost while their rental car was in the shop being fixed. Diminished Value is an attempt to charge you for the reduced resale value of the car that was damaged because it was in an accident. These charges are not covered by your policy.

Remember that this extended coverage changes all the time. ALWAYS CALL US HERE TO DOUBLE CHECK THAT YOUR POLICY DOES PROVIDE THE IMPORTANT COVERAGES THAT YOU NEED WHEN RENTING A CAR. 419-478-7556
